Einer geht noch, einer geht noch rein – There is always space for one more

Nach drei Wochen oder 48 Stunden Unterricht habe ich jetzt zwei, möglicherweise drei neue Teilnehmer im Kurs.  Zwei davon waren auf meiner ursprünglichen Liste, aber sie haben die Einladung nicht erhalten.  Ihre jetzige Einladung trägt das Datum von gestern und heute.  Für mich kamen sie als komplette Überraschung und ohne Vorwarnung. Es gibt irgendeine Richtlinie, dass bis zu 17 Teilnehmer in einem Alphakurs sein dürfen (in einem Integrationskurs bis zu 25 Teilnehmer).  Jetzt habe ich 16 oder vielleicht auch 17.

Khalil ist Syrer, und dank Ziad (und möglichweise seiner Frau, das werde ich Morgen erfahren) aus dem Iran kann ich das persisch-deutsche Wörterbuch wieder entmotten.  Ziad spricht schon recht gut Deutsch und ich habe keine Angst, dass er schnell zu den anderen aufholen kann. Über Khalil mache ich mir mehr Sorgen, er ist nicht mehr der Jüngste und tut sich schwer, aber ich kann nicht den ganzen Kurs aufhalten oder wieder von vorne beginnen.  Ich weiß noch nicht, wie ich das anstellen soll, aber irgendwie werde ich bewerkstelligen. Wie bei vielem anderen, was mit Flüchtlingen zu tun hat, heißt es improvisieren.

After three weeks or 48 hours of lessons I have now two, possibly three more new participants in the course.  Two of them were on my original list but they did not receive their invitation to the course.  Their current invitation carries the date of yesterday and today, respectively.  For me they arrived as a complete surprise without any warning.  Somewhere there is a guideline that there should be no more than 17 participants in an alphabetisation course (25 in an integration course). Now I have 16 or maybe even 17.

Khalil is from Syria, and thanks to Ziad from Iran (and possibly his wife, I will find out more tomorrow) I can take the Persian-Germany dictionary out of mothballs.  Ziad speaks reasonably well German already and I am not worried that he can catch up with the others.  I worry more about Khalil who is not the youngest anymore and struggles but I won’t be able to delay the whole course or start from the beginning again.  I don’t know yet what I will do but somehow I will manage.  Just as with so many other things concerning refugees improvisations are what is needed.
