Stellvertreterfreude – Joy by proxy

Before I write anything else about my current course I want to share the test results of the last class. I delayed asking for the results because I was worried about bad news. You do your best to teach them for 18 months (thanks to COVID it was almost 30 months) and then they have to do it by themselves.

Last week Aras sent a text message that he had a B1 pass and now I couldn’t put it off any longer. I had to go find out about the others. [In the meantime I found out that the others have not yet received their results – and I am not allowed to tell them!!]

There are three possible results. A B1 pass is the best possibility and exceeds the expectations of an alpha learner. A2 is a pass and the result that is the intended outcome of an alpha class. Anything less is a no-pass.

I’m so chuffed for Irosha, the Kurdish woman who never went a day to school before coming to Germany. She did not pass the written part and failed overall but together with Asra she has the highest mark in the oral section (90 of 100).

The only other learner who did not pass overall was my best and most conscientious learner. That is a real shocker. She skipped a whole section and did poorly in the other, yet reasonably well in the oral. I can only guess that she had a very, very bad case of nerves.

Overall – two B1 passes, two fails (one inexplicable, one still much better than what I expected) and the rest all have A2 passes, even the borderline cases.

I am going to have a drink tonight – toasting the class and a little bit toasting myself as well.

Bevor ich etwas anderes über meinen jetzigen Kurs schreibe, möchte ich von den DTZ-Ergebnissen der letzten Klasse berichten. Ich habe gezögert, nachzufragen, weil ich Angst vor schlechten Nachrichten hatte. Man tut 18 Monate lang sein Bestes, ihnen etwas beizubringen, dank Corona waren es sogar 30 Monate, und dann müssen sie es allein schaffen.

Letzte Woche bekam ich eine Textnachricht von Aras, dass er auf Stufe B1 bestanden hat und jetzt konnte ich es nicht länger hinausschieben. [Inzwischen weiß allerdings, dass noch nicht alle Kursteilnehmer Bescheid bekommen haben – und ich darf es ihnen nicht sagen!!]

Es gibt drei mögliche Ergebnisse. Bestanden mit B1-Stufe ist die beste Möglichkeit und übersteigt die Erwartungen, die an einen Alpha-Schüler gestellt werden. Man besteht mit A2 und das ist der angestrebte Abschluss einer Alphaklasse. Jede geringere Punktzahl gilt als nicht bestanden.

Ich freue mich riesig für Irosha, die kurdische Frau, die bevor sie nach Deutschland kam, keinen einzigen Tag eine Schule besucht hat. Sie hat den schriftlichen Teil nicht bestanden und insgesamt kein Zertifikat bekommen, aber zusammen mit Asra die höchste Punktzahl im Mündlichen bekommen (90 von 100 Punkten).

Die einzige andere Lernerin, die kein Zertifikat erhalten hat, war meine beste und gewissenhafteste Schülerin. Das hat mich beinahe umgehauen. Sie hat einen Teil gar nicht bearbeitet und im anderen schriftlichen Teil schlecht abgeschnitten, sich allerdings im Mündlichen recht gut geschlagen. Ich kann nur vermuten, dass sie komplett die Nerven verloren hat.

Insgesamt: zwei mit B1 bestanden, zwei durchgefallen (eine unerklärlich, eine mit einem trotz allem viel besseren Resultat als ich erwartet habe) und alle anderen haben mit A2 bestanden, sogar die Wackelkandidaten.

Ich werde mir heute Abend einen Drink einschenken und auf die Klasse anstoßen und auch ein bisschen auf mich.
